Ugly Laulima

As one of the pioneers in online education at UH Manoa, I was naturally uneasy about the switch to Laulima (Sakai) from WebCT.  I had spent countless hours mastering the old beast and really wasn't in the mood to tackle another beast.  My worries were only beginning now that I've actually worked in Laulima.  So, in the spirit of all things Manoa, I am ditching Laulima completely, preferring to go "off the grid" and mashup my own resources I need to teach courses completely online.

I did however manage to help a friend in our music department create a better looking content management system via Apple's iWeb.    Pretty easy to build..I almost used the old WebCT icons just to make a statement, but opted for a cleaner look.  This is a complex course to teach online--because it's music, it has to have a ton of audio and video files which are part of the required content.  I opted to use flashplayers for these to thwart piracy and attempt to prevent prison time for the faculty member!
